Job Description:
The Assistant Store Manager at Ross Stores supports the Store Manager in leading the store team to achieve sales goals and ensure a positive shopping experience for all Customers. This role involves coaching and developing Associates, overseeing store operations, maintaining visual merchandising standards, and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures. The Assistant Store Manager acts as a role model, demonstrating excellent customer service and driving a culture of teamwork and engagement.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Prioritizes safety by maintaining a safe and secure shopping and working environment. Ensures clear pathways to emergency exits and addresses or reports any unsafe conditions immediately.
- Leads by example in treating all Customers and Associates with respect and courtesy, fostering a friendly and professional atmosphere. Actively participates in Company recognition programs.
- Assists the Store Manager in the recruitment, training, and development of store Associates. Provides ongoing coaching and feedback to enhance individual and team performance.
- Supports the Store Manager in planning and directing the day-to-day operations of the store, including opening and closing procedures, scheduling, and task delegation.
- Ensures exceptional Customer service by actively engaging with Customers, addressing inquiries and resolving issues promptly and effectively. Serves as a point of escalation for Customer concerns.
- Upholds the Company brand image by ensuring adherence to visual merchandising standards, maintaining a clean, organized, and well-stocked sales floor.
- Performs and delegates cleaning tasks to maintain the overall appearance and cleanliness of the store, including sales floor, restrooms, and backroom areas.
- Adheres to the Company's dress code and maintains a professional appearance at all times.
- Oversees the efficient processing of new merchandise receipts, ensuring timely and accurate merchandising in accordance with company guidelines and monthly presentation standards.
- Reinforces Loss Prevention awareness among store Associates, understands shortage control measures, and ensures compliance with merchandise protection standards.
- Demonstrates integrity and honesty in all interactions, safeguarding confidential information, cash handling procedures, and merchandise.
- Ensures compliance with all Mark-Out-of-Stock (MOS) policies and procedures, including proper identification, processing, and communication to the Store Manager for approval.
- Follows all company policies related to cash, check, credit card, and refund transactions, minimizing errors and maintaining accuracy.
- Drives efficiency and productivity by effectively executing store best practices and optimizing workflow.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Proven ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with Customers, Associates, and Store Leadership.
- Strong understanding of basic mathematical concepts and their application in a retail environment.
- Demonstrated leadership potential and ability to motivate and develop a team.
- Prior retail experience, preferably in a supervisory role.
- Ability to problem-solve and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ADA:
- Ability to operate all store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and computers.
- Ability to spend a majority of the workday standing, walking, and moving throughout the store.
- Ability to frequently bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
- Ability to occasionally push, pull, and lift objects weighing more than 25 pounds.
- Ability to use cleaning equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other necessary supplies.
- Specific assignments may require additional qualifications or physical abilities.
- For Stockroom shifts: Ability to regularly push, pull, and lift items exceeding 20 pounds.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directly supervises store Associates and provides guidance and support to the team.
