Description:
As a Retail Associate at Ross Stores, your primary responsibility is to create a positive and welcoming shopping environment for every customer. This role involves actively engaging with customers through eye contact, a genuine smile, and a friendly greeting. You will collaborate respectfully with fellow team members and consistently adhere to company best practices across all work areas. Maintaining a clean and organized workspace and ensuring appealing merchandise presentation are also key aspects of this position. You will be expected to remain actively engaged in assigned tasks throughout your scheduled hours and be adaptable to perform various duties in different store zones based on evolving business needs. Furthermore, you may be asked to undertake additional tasks as required to support our customer service and operational objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Prioritizes safety in all actions and consistently demonstrates safe work habits.
- Maintains a high degree of floor awareness to contribute to a secure shopping atmosphere for everyone. Ensures clear pathways to emergency exits are free of obstructions. Immediately addresses or reports any unsafe conditions or practices to Store Leadership.
- Interacts with all Customers and Associates with respect and politeness, maintaining a friendly and professional demeanor at all times. Acknowledges fellow Associates through Company recognition programs.
- Provides comprehensive customer assistance, including register operation, merchandise support, and knowledgeable responses to inquiries. Greets every Customer with eye contact, a smile, and a "hello" throughout the store, and expresses "thank you" after each register transaction.
- Offers timely and efficient service to Customers in all interactions. Responds promptly to Customer Service calls. Handles all Customer concerns with courtesy and helpfulness, escalating to Store Leadership when necessary.
- Actively represents and supports the Company brand in all interactions and activities.
- Performs various cleaning duties, such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping surfaces, restocking restrooms, and sanitizing high-touch zones like the front-end, sales floor, and restrooms, to uphold cleanliness in merchandise, customer, and Team areas.
- Maintains a professional appearance in accordance with the Company's dress code at all times.
- Executes daily assigned sizing and recovery tasks according to company best practices to ensure a tidy, clean, and well-organized store with efficient merchandise presentation aligned with standards.
- Expedites the flow of newly received merchandise to the sales floor with urgency, merchandising all items following company best practices and monthly presentation guidelines, and developing familiarity with merchandise/brand names within departments to better assist Customers.
- Understands and adheres to the Loss Prevention Awareness program, the Shortage Highway, the Store Protection Specialist (SPS) role (if applicable), and merchandise protection standards.
- As a representative of Ross Inc., conducts all interactions with Associates and Customers with integrity and honesty. Protects confidential information, cash, credit card details, and merchandise.
- Adheres to all Mark-Out-of-Stock (MOS) policies, including identifying MOS merchandise, correctly processing each item, and informing Store Leadership for review and approval of all disposals.
- Follows all policies and procedures related to cash, check, charge card, and refund transactions, voids, and offline procedures. Maintains a high level of vigilance and accuracy when handling financial transactions.
- Demonstrates a sense of urgency to perform job duties efficiently. Maximizes productivity by implementing all Store best practices and streamlining work processes.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Ability to communicate effectively with Customers, Associates, and Store Leadership in a friendly, respectful, cooperative, and pleasant manner.
- Proficiency in basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail settings.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ADA:
- Ability to operate all Store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PCs as needed.
- Ability to spend the majority (up to 100%) of the workday standing, walking, and moving throughout the Store.
- Ability to frequently bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
- Ability to occasionally push, pull, and lift items weighing more than 25 pounds.
- Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies.
- Specific assignments may require additional qualifications and skills.
- Associates working Stockroom shifts: Ability to regularly push, pull, and lift items weighing more than 20 pounds.
